Prepare for your visit! Find out exactly which documents you'll need for your vehicle title, registration, or notary transaction.

Document requirements

Missing documents or incomplete paperwork are the most common causes of transaction delays. Find clear answers to common checklist questions below, or call ahead if you have unique circumstances.

Pennsylvania Vehicle Title Transfer
  • Original Pennsylvania vehicle title
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license or acceptable PennDOT identification for the buyer.
  • Seller's valid identification if signing at our office
  • Current Pennsyvania auto insurance in the buyer's name if registration or plates are needed
  • Vehicle's current mileage, when applicable
  • Purchase price and payment for applicable fees and taxes

Both parties should attend when signatures need to be notarized. If the seller has already properly completed and notarized the title, contact our office for instructions.

Out-of-State Vehicle Title Transfer

  • Original out-of-state vehicle title, properly assigned when ownership is changing

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license or acceptable PennDOT identification

  • Proof of Pennsylvania auto insurance if registering the vehicle

  • VIN tracing or authorized VIN verification

  • Current vehicle mileage, when required

  • Proof of sales tax paid in another state, if applicable

  • Lienholder or leasing-company information, if applicable

Important: Additional paperwork may be required depending on the state issuing the title, lien status, or whether the vehicle is being purchased or brought into Pennsylvania by its current owner.

Registration Renewal or Replacement Plates

  • Current Pennsylvania registration card or renewal notice, if available

  • License plate number and vehicle title number

  • Valid identification

  • Current vehicle insurance information

  • Current odometer reading for registration renewals

  • Payment for applicable fees

For lost, stolen, damaged, or illegible plates, additional information or forms may be necessary.

General Notary Services

What should I bring to have a document notarized?

  • Original document requiring notarization

  • Current, acceptable government-issued identification

  • All individuals whose signatures need to be notarized

  • Any required witnesses, if applicable

Important: Do not sign documents in advance if the notarial act requires us to witness your signature. Some acknowledgments allow previously signed documents. Documents must be complete, with no missing essential information.

Financed or Leased Vehicles Moving to PA

What should I bring if I'm moving to Pennsylvania and my vehicle is financed or leased?

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license or acceptable PennDOT identification

  • Current out-of-state registration card

  • Lienholder or leasing company's name, address, and contact information

  • Vehicle loan or lease account information

  • Proof of Pennsylvania auto insurance

  • VIN tracing or authorized verification, as required

  • Leasing-company authorization or paperwork, if applicable

We can assist with requesting your title directly from your lienholder. Once the title is received and the required documentation is complete, we can process your Pennsylvania title and registration, issue your registration credentials and plate, and ensure the lienholder is properly recorded.

Vehicle Title Transfer After Death of Owner

What documents are required to transfer a vehicle after the owner has passed away?

  • Original Pennsylvania vehicle title

  • Original death certificate

  • Valid identification of the individual receiving or handling the transfer

  • Information about the surviving spouse, heirs, or estate representative

  • Will, short certificate, or estate documentation, if applicable

  • Proof of Pennsylvania auto insurance if registration is requested

Additional signatures, affidavits, or Form MV-39 may be required depending on how the vehicle was titled and who is legally entitled to receive it.
